Queen Luise and Friedrich Wilhelm III resided in Memel since January 1807 until they moved to Königsberg on January 1808. Memel a few times still housed the royal couple in its walls. They came for a two-day visit in September 1808. The picture resulted for reason of the return journey to Königsberg on September 25th 1808.
The royal couple also made a rest in Memel for several days in December 1808 on a journey to Petersburg and in February 1809 on the way back thence.
