From the Luisenstrasse we turn into the Börsenstrasse again and soon we are in front of the by Baerwald created bronze Monument of Wilhelm 'The Great' resting on a granite pedestal, a present of the Kommerzienrath Wilhelm Pietsch to his hometown. It is located at the esplanade in front of the Lindenallee, which runs through the middle of the Alexanderstrasse. The monument's inauguration was on October 3rd, 1896, along with a memory of October 3rd, 1807 when Prince Wilhelm for the first time joined the frontline here in Memel. The posture of the emperor is simply and nevertheless majesticly. The countenance of this unforgettable ruler excellently expresses the mating of his majestic-dignity and mildness. There are 3 reliefs attached at the granite pedestal. The left relief shows Prince Wilhelm reporting to the royal parents about the accomplished service at the frontline; the relief on the right side represents Queen Luise with the two oldest Princes. The sovereign mother is about to set a wreath of cornflowers on the head of Prince Wilhelm, who is kneeling in front of her. The relief situated on the back of the pedestal describes King Friedrich Wilhelm's III first meeting. which took place with the Tsar Alexander I., at Memel on June 10th, 1802.
