The story about the two Dange-Speicher, the 'Two brothers'.

They were built within the years 1861 to 1871 after wooden huts had been there before. Most owners or users are no longer known today. They changed again and again, and the warehouses served in the course of the time for the storage of agricultural products like grain, feedstuff but also fertilizer. Herrings were also stored here. Within the 1940s years P.Schulz was the leaseholder here, he operated flax import and export.
The western one of the two buildings under the influences of the 2nd World War were so strong damaged, so the decision became necessary to remove the topmost storey, before the reconstruction.
After the war the warehouses were used by "Zagotszerno" and river-traffic companies. After that some trading companies used the buildings. School requisites or also "strong drinks" were stored here e.g..
The restaurant "Memelis", which also offers beer from the brewery of its own, uses the to the west situated warehouse building today (www.memelis.lt).

The Flachswaage

also was damaged strongly in the war and was later teared down. It was one of the biggest and most valuable buildings of the town. The 'Flachswaage' was erected in 1856, thus after the great fire of 1854. Here the flax from the inland region was sorted and processed for the export.
At the place where the Flachswaage formerly was you now can find a lovely small park with flower boxes, park benches and bubbling fountains of copper pipes and cupreous bullets.
