The church without a steeple in the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße opposite the Reformed church was primarily the church for the Lithuanian speaking rural population.
Its position changed in 1686 from the Aschhof to the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße, and it was put up newly in 1855/56. It became the Jakubus church after Memelland's secession. Up to the first World War it was dedicated to St. Nikolai.
The second World War had damaged it strongly. The Russian armed forces in Memel perfected the destruction by demolishing the walls with the help of tanks.
