The Wohlfahrtshaus (welfare institution)...
... is a municipal building opposite the winter port, which is dedicated to the working class, and was funded by bequests. It contains dining-halls, baths and showers for the use by the longshoremen. There are shipowners' payroll offices as well as accommodation facilities for small children whose mothers are working as stevedores. A drinking-fountain by Jänensch decorates the place in front of the house. It is the so-called Hahnenbrunnen (rooster fountain). The design of this beneficial, social welfare institution which is unique in Baltic Sea ports was created by the town government building officer Kleemann.
