In 1900 in the Paulstraße was built an electrical head office for the streetcar. For that reason one had to remove, respectively fill up, old ramparts and moats. At the same time was the putting of the track network. The lines 'Lighthouse - Schmelz' and 'Station - Schmelz' got partly set in operation on August 18th, 1904, and the completely operation was in November after rebuilding of the Börsenbrücke. After a development of the Karlsbrücke the streetcar could be conducted also across these. The fare amounted to 10 Pfg on all ways.
Due to the extension of the town the electrical streetcars which had reliably provided its service now thirty years were finally replaced by busses in October 1934. New lines could be opened among others to Försterei and Janischken. The deserted streetcar depository in the Paulstraße was changed into a gigantic painter hall for the municipal theater. The entire stage-designer workshop with the joinery of the theater moved to here. |
