150 Anniversary Simon-Dach-School
The currently oldest school in Memel/Klaipėda celebrated its 150 years anniversary. The school building hardly changed (only the façade is beautiful yellowly painted today, and an additional third floor was added) reminds of the times, when German pupils studied here. Its founding was in 1855, and it was named "Parkschule". In the beginning of the 20th century it was enlarged and a completely new section was added on in 1932, and the school now got the name "Simon-Dach-Schule". This name is unchanged to this day. The school fosters its long and interesting history. For this reason a small museum was founded in the year of the anniversary celebration. Memories of the German, the Russian and the current Lithuanian periods of the school history have found their place here.
There are many contacts to former German students. But unfortunately a lot of information about the German era, such as old photos, documents about teachers and pupils, class-registers and other school documents is still missing. |
One year after the big fire of 1854 the "Neustädtische Schule", which was in the "Hospitalstraße", became moved to the "Neuer Park" and was called since then Parkschule. The "Neustädtische Mädchen-Mittelschule" came from the "Rossgarten" to the "Neuer Park" in 1881. |
