Entrance of the "Nehrungsfort". Within the years 1865-1871 the Nehrungsfort was built. 1897 became the buildings devastated by militaries, handed over for civilian usage. From 1879 until 1900 one building was used as school for children of "Süderspitze". In 1902 a wind semaphore was set up on the dam of the fort which indicated the direction and the strength of the wind at the ports of Libau (Liepaja) and Brüsterort. After the formation of the navy's fleet from 1932 until 1934 on the Curonian lagoon its vessels supported the frontier police. From 1939 until 1945 the Nehrungsfort housed the German air-defence camp. In 1945 the German armed forces blew up the central part of the fort, and the jetty too. After the reconstruction of the Nehrungsfort the sea museum of Lithuania can use it since 1979. |
