Because the bulwark at the end of the river bank at the right side at the river mouth has been completely silted and weathered, in 1914 a renovation was necessary, and it became protracted for 30 feet further to the lagoon. Thus the depth of the water was increased, and a site for a new "Kochhaus" (cooking-house) for seamen could be created at the same time. The cook house became built in 1818; It is solidly, with 20 square feet floor space, and instead of a roof, it was completely arched over. Absolutely no lumber is used for the building, and the doors are made of iron. It contains two separated kitchens, equipped with iron rusts, whose smoke tubes can be closed with steely flaps to damp a fire which arise possibly.
The mariners anchoring in the Dange river were not allowed to keep fire on the banks or aboard. So they were forced to use the expensive private houses for to cook their food, and to boil their pitch and tar. The public security was thereby endangered by fire danger very much. The cook-house can be used for free. In comparison to other ports the seamen's conveniences are very economically here.
