Today's Smiltynė ferry (Sandkrug-Fähre) also is suitable for the transportation of vehicles, but carries only pedestrians and cyclists normally. Motor vehicles use a ferry, which about four kilometers southerly crosses the lagoon.

The jetty for ferries sailing to "Sandkrug" (today: Smiltynė) is still close to the "Karlsbrücke" (now Pilies tiltas).
